Smart Sports Monitoring System for Elite Windsurfing

A research collaboration between the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at PolyU and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), applying innovative technologies to elite windsurfing and advancing data-informed approaches to athlete monitoring and performance support.

The Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) are collaborating on a research initiative focused on the application of innovative technologies in elite windsurfing, starting from 2026. By integrating expertise in engineering, sensing technologies, and sports science, the collaboration advances data-informed approaches to athlete monitoring and performance support, and fosters knowledge exchange between academia and the high-performance sports sector — contributing to the continued development of sports technology and sports science in Hong Kong.

Project period. 1 May 2026 – 30 April 2028.
